Playing with Pictures

These wonderful pictures are from the book Playing with Pictures, an incredible catalog of Victorian ladies who created albums using painting, drawing and photo collage. I could look at it for hours. Being completely Victorian obsessed I decided to dress up in some of the clothes that usually just hang on my wall, here I am doing very Victorian things such as reading a book!....yes I am apparently quite MAD but it is the last day of 2010 and really we should do whatever we wish! A very happy new year to you all, my 2010 was made a lot more fun by my fellow vintage lovin' ladies and I so look forward to much more of it in 2011. (I am still itchy from wearing that dress for 10 minutes)

Thanks everyone for entering and see you at the next giveaway sometime in 2011....thanks to my dear boy for leaving the couch to draw the winner, here's what the boy does when he's not on the couch drinking red wine at 12.30pm (tis the season), would join him if light wasn't perfect for pics today!.....

Snowed in...

The boy and I are in MA, big ole snow storm just started outside, hoping we will be able to drive back to NY tomorrow....how was Christmas? we still so full of turkey! The snow means we get to hang out in the hotel room today, I can go over the goodies bought for the shop from a great antique mall  (completely odd bunch of stuff including a 30s dress that is decidedly 80s, usually the other way around huh!) ....can't see it very well here but this is the boy's duck sweater purchased from Blue Butterfly Vintage, he loves it! (that's what he says)....

A cardinal giveaway....

Thought I'd do a little Christmas giveaway while I'm away! Just an old-fashioned kind of thing, leave me a comment below to say hi with your email address and a winner will be drawn from a hat next Tuesday the 28th! This sweet cardinal would make a fine addition to any vintage closet and I look forward to sending it to you maybe? Happy Holidays and thanks so much for reading this little blog.
(International readers welcome!)

Where'd you get that?

Surely one of the coolest things about this vintage hunting and thrifting gig is just how far flung your finds can be, even in one day's outfit. It's kind of fun to think about where everything came from some days, especially because you didn't just walk into any old store and buy it off the rack right? (and if you did that rack was probably jam packed and full of fairly hideous clothes before you plucked it out) Everything above is from just about as far away from each other as they could get.

locket: antique store in Arizona
skirt: DearGolden
boots & belt: thrift store in Miami
beret, tights & tee: NYC
vest: vintage market in Paris (before the recession was super lucky to go for work, now, not so much!)
me: made in New Zealand

Keeping warm....Greenpoint.

A frigid early morning dog walk, but this young lady manages to look adorable. And warm.

Denial, the longest river in Africa.

The end of last week also heralded the end of my winter denial. For at least 2 weeks every year at the beginning of 'real' winter I don't wear gloves, or a hat and too few clothes. But well it's time, the great thing about coats of course is that it's time for pins! Now come on snow, do your worst.

Vintage coat, pin and boots.

A weekend.

Love a weekend escape. This one involved fairytale eggs, 60s dresses, bright hats, smattering of shoes (all for the shop) and two Victorian dresses (for me), the full length decayed one here is slightly creepy and I almost expect it to be wailing through the house by itself when it gets dark...shudder.
*I have not given up on this being a street fashion blog, when it became cold and dark it suddenly got harder to take pics and I started panicking a little, I really want the pics to be mostly-vintage wearing folk  so am going to set aside time in this fashion-conscious Brooklyn neighborhood of mine to get some fine folk on film, in the meantime hope you don't mind this other palava...
