Sometimes a character comes along that is so compelling to watch you can watch her over and over again! I am always watching a period drama either for the first time or the fifth, Downton Abbey has got to be one of the best I've ever seen. The clothing is jaw-droppingly FABULOUS and the cast equally as impressive. The Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) takes the prize though, she's haughty and downright hysterical ("what's a weekend?"). If you like a GREAT period drama do check it out, the entire first season is watchable on PBS. Vintage excellence.

This is my Mum, Evelyn Maria, holding me as a chubby baby in 1972 or beginning '73. My Mum is a very cool lady who started things rather young, married and first kid at 16 (Dad was 18) and me at 20....don't you love '70s pics! Mum in a Hang Ten tank top and plaid maxi skirt and I think I'd like any of those cosy creamy knitted sweaters on the boat too. Get to see my Mum in just a few days and do a lot of what I'm doing here in this last picture, apparently I was always pretty good at relaxing in the sun! 'See' you all in a few weeks, I'll really miss my tweet, blog, Etsy, vintage friends and look forward to getting back into it with an extra work day to do it, exciting stuff, for reals.

Can you guess what the top two things have in common? well, apart from colour they were both 12 bucks! Lucky for me a swing dancer was selling this 1940s dress for 12 dollars on her stoop here in Brooklyn. I am suitably embarrassed to admit I offered 10. She declined so I paid the 12. It's near perfect except for a few rhinestones missing from the jeweled clasps. 1940's dresses are fast becoming a serious affliction....or addiction...or something.

I know, I know, most of you will be wanting photoshop lessons after this post. But....these two dresses remain UNWORN and today I rather excitedly put them in the "going on vacation" pile for my suitcase! I snapped them both up 'out of season' and now get to wear 'em in the sun! The metallic reptilian type number is from the wonderful Lauren of DearGolden (as is the gold necklace I am also taking...). The blue beauty is from Greatgrandmaagnes, was so lucky to get this for a ridiculously low price...and thinking it'll look fab with these sandals, also unworn from Pineapplemint. Yay for unworn vintage (by me)and a little HEAT.

It's a great day when you receive TWO packages in the mail from Lisa of Tree & Kimball. This wonderful gal sent me an early birthday pressie of the 'Helen' necklace she named after my shop (Helen is the leading lady in the Tenant of Wildfell Hall). It's so gorgeous. I had just pulled out my fave rooster skirt to take on vacation and think it kinda looks great with it. Lisa you are one amazing lady!
(Shoes are some Christian Dior sweeties that will be in the shop early March)

I realized yesterday the mister and I will be flying on Valentines Day, not just flying but we actually skip the whole day as we leave NY on the 13th and arrive New Zealand on the 15th. I love this guy. This week was rough on many levels, I always go bonkers just before seeing my family because I only get to see then once a year and it kills me. I'm trying very hard to manage a full time job and this growing vintage shop as well as taking small steps to make it more of a business this year and one day pursue it full time. This month I turn 39. 3.9. It's perilously close to 40. A time when the hammer is coming down on decisions like owning something and having a baby, the first I would love and the second I wish I wanted but am not sure I do. Anyway, the rambling point is that this fine man, a delicious cocktail and a tasty dinner out can make any rough week seem so much better. Plus how can you not love a man who tattoos Victorian 'dress form ladies'? Exactly.
tattoo by John Reardon. (it's not on me)
