a matador and a squid.
Sometimes when your dress form wants to talk you just have to listen....so anyway....got this fab matador skirt from the charming DeLaBelle I love it. The squid necklace was a gift from my Mum after I had an enormous squid/Victorian lady thingy tattooed on me. She now calls me "squid girl". I think it's affectionate. The bag was a recent "mine", you know when you shop for your shop but it goes in your closet....yeah that. I need to get back out there and take pics of great folks on the street....

Nancy Cunard
If anyone needs a great book recommendation I am (almost) in the middle of a completely amazing biography about Nancy Cunard, an incredible heiress who became a political activist, you may recognize this image with her stacks of African bangles (taken by Man Ray). The accounts of WW1 in Britain and the years following are quite astounding...I won't rabbit on here about it as am still a ways to go in the book but if you enjoyed The Mitfords and the like you will really get into this one.....oh to be a fly on the wall at those high society Bohemian parties in the teens and '20s, sounds as if they were rather debauched....

1930's feet.
Sometimes when really vintage pieces land in the shop I just look at them. For a long time. As is the case with these '30s shoes, both around a size 6 and way too small for my tootsies. They shall be listed in 2 shakes of a lamb's tail as we say down under.

I do not live in an asylum.
Because my blog pics are shot on the one white wall in my apartment thought it best to show another room so you do not think I live in an asylum (not too much of a stretch). So, this is our living room, ta da! So embarrassing but after 4 YEARS of sitting on this couch and complaining a friend said "it would be better without the plank of wood", so I looked under it and there's slats, took the wood off, and now it's comfy. 4 years of being uncomfortable. That last pic is my new shoes, I paid full retail in a real vintage store and they are half a size too big, but I was feelin' crazy....

Joan R.
In a couple of weeks this fabulous lady on the right will be my mother in law! It's 1963 and these two charming women are overlooking Acapulco. I kind of want that cover-up thing her friend is wearing....which reminds me I need a vintage inspired swimsuit, does anyone have any recommendations? I think 'inspired' might be better because I don't want a wet swimsuit all day...;)

Stoops to conquer.
I can't WAIT for stoop sales to start. Last summer I found such great vintage right here on the streets of Brooklyn. Check out this stoop, I want to live here. Think we can safely say that whoever does live here does not have the need to sell things on their stoop however......

Unraveling.
So a couple weeks back a dear lady gave me a bag of freebies, some very cool 'distressed' Edwardian lace pieces etc...I was happy with that but then one unraveled itself to be this great crochet vest. Which I think I might wear with this little Edwardian camisole thingy. And then I might put on these pretty amazing treeandkimball earrings that sweet Lisa gave me....LOVE a bit of crochet when it comes hidden in a little ball....

Comfort and Style.....on the Lower East Side
I would love to wear this jumpsuit because she looks so super cool in it, but pretty sure I could not pull it off....I think kids would ask me to juggle something....

Barn sales....
Not sure if I'll ever get enough of these Victorian bracelets, found this one couple weekend's ago on trip to upstate NY, same trip I came across a bunch of great barn sales and scored some fab vintage, including this black ruffled and ruched sleeved dress which was slightly damaged and my size...we all know what that means...mine.

A modern romance.
So, the mister and I are getting hitched. We have to now.....because look what we did. I would say "young love" but frankly neither of us is young....;)
