When I was in New Zealand I popped into the "Unveiled" exhibit in Wellington, 200 years of wedding fashion from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It was unbelievable as you might imagine! (and full of women, only man present sold me my ticket) My favourite was this beautiful red silk dress, so so lovely. The dress was worn in 1938 by Monica Maurice who was an extremely educated professional working woman...her favourite colour was red so she chose it for her big day, and who can blame her? Quite a shocker at the time (still a little rare!) but wow what a dress.
Below are some amazing shoes from the exhibit too, if you are in NZ you must drop by, worth every penny.

What a fabulous dress! And I LOVE seeing the real thing right next to the b/w photo...a good reminder that, despite the monochrome of old photos and movies, our predecessors loved color just as much as we do!
ReplyDeleteThat is an incredible dress, for your wedding day or any day. I've been trying to track down a dress like that for ages.
