Bigger....healthier?

This morning on NPR they interviewed a couple of '80s supermodels about their careers....I was a teenager in the 80s and grew up thinking Christy, Cindy, Elle etc were just the bees knees, when I was checking out some online pics this morning it struck me that these ladies appear a fair bit curvier than they do now? or do they? seems like the 80s silhouette was a little more womanly....less yoga arms and more hips....and def' less photoshop...there's creases on the hips, belly curves....maybe I just have golden age thinking here though as sounds like these ladies did indeed starve themselves just like I'm sure they do now. If you are in my age range who was your favourite? (Christy for me!)
(p.s. my old office in Manhattan was right next door to Christy Turlington's home, she is incredible looking in person and I think, am pretty sure, there's no work done on that gorgeous face! but really who knows....)

  1. I was a teenager in the 80s, too, but I didn't really follow mainstream fashion. I *do* remember Madonna being very influential, fashion-wise! Wasn't the really skinny, heroin chic look a 90s thing? I don't know if that's stuck...maybe it has, because I agree with you, these ladies all look healthy, or at least, not "too skinny." Whatever that is.

  2. Oh wow, I so remember THESE actual pictures from my younger years! I pinned the first one (pre-pinterest days) to my bedroom wall as my inspiration to do aerobics everyday - ha. I remember there was a bit of talk at the time about these models being too skinny and unhealthy role models for us little girls. Oh if we only know what was to come. I still think the first generation of super-models were/are some of the most beautiful women on the planet!

  3. I think I agree with Karen and the skinny look became more popular in the 90s, especially with the popularity of Kate Moss.

Cindy Crawford was such an amazing model and I love Christy Turlington's classic look and style.
